How a Plastic Crusher Works and How to Choose One

Reference guide

Plastic crushing machine in operation

In a modern recycling system, the crusher is where bulk plastic waste becomes a consistent, processable feed. Understanding how it works helps you choose the right machine for your material and capacity.

How it works

A rotating rotor with cutting blades spins against fixed knives in the chamber. Material is drawn in, sheared into flakes, and held until pieces are small enough to fall through the screen mesh that controls the output size.

How to choose

Consider your material type (rigid vs film), input size, contamination, and the downstream process. Blade count, rotor diameter, motor power and screen aperture should all match the material and the target capacity.
